Oral Health Therapist

“I aim to help patients achieve a healthy oral environment through education, prevention and patient centric treatment.”

Graduating from AUT in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Oral Health Science, I’ve been a practicing Oral Health Therapist in Christchurch since then.

Originally from the States, I love living in Canterbury with all of the nature it has to offer.

After work I enjoy walks with my dog Chuppy, and going on adventures with my husband and young daughter.

Hi I’m Michele, an American trained hygienist. I graduated from Middlesex College in 2002 with a degree in Dental Hygiene.

During my career I’ve worked in many different settings including private practice, public health, and hospitals.

Educating patients and providing comprehensive treatment based on their individual dental care needs is what I enjoy most.

I love Christchurch and I’m grateful to be working with such talented and caring colleagues who provide quality care here at Team Dental.

Outside of dental hygiene I’m passionate about my family, animals, baking, and human rights.

Healthy, happy smiles.

Emma is amazing!! It's been a while in between my appointments and Emma made it feel like it's only been a couple of months! Emma was great at explaining the procedures in great detail and always a step ahead with the $ questions. Great service and overall communication and friendliness. Thanks Team Dental

Aww Emma is so awesome, very professional and so gentle, she is now my fav dentist and you are my fav Assistant, Jackie, thank you for great service

Dana Hobbs

Very professional. Fast and efficient. But took the time to explain everything. Made a Root Canal far more pleasant than was expecting. Thanks

I have been seeing Emma Ward for an extraction of a wisdom tooth and fillings and I have to say that she is a very awesome and kind dentist. Of course, the dental practice is not my favourite place to go, but Emma really makes you feel comfortable and explains everything so everyone can understand, Emma has a lot of patience und always comes up with different options. The receptionist and Emma's little helpers are very friendly, kind and understanding as well, I do feel good visiting this practice.

FAQs

How often should I book a hygiene appointment?

Most patients need a professional clean every 6 to 12 months. Your schedule depends on your oral health needs.

What happens during a hygiene appointment?

Your hygienist assesses your oral health, removes plaque and tartar, discusses concerns, and provides advice to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Can a hygienist help with gum disease?

Yes. Hygienists play an important role in identifying, treating, and managing gum disease through professional cleaning and ongoing maintenance.

Will my teeth feel sensitive after treatment?

Some patients experience mild sensitivity after a clean, particularly if there is significant buildup. This is usually temporary and settles quickly.
