WORKING AS A DENTAL ASSISTANT AT TEAM DENTAL

TEAM DENTAL IS ONE BIG FAMILY: TERESAS STORY.

Hi I’m Teresa and I am a Lead Dental Assistant for Team Dental 2nd Ave

Dental Assisting is a fantastic career and I have had the opportunity with Team Dental to extend myself beyond being a Dental Assistant to taking up a role within the Management Team of the practice as a Lead Dental Assistant.

As part of the Management Team as well as my duties in the surgery assisting I am also responsible for the ordering of equipment and supplies, my natural shopping skills come in handy here as I hunt out the best deals to ensure the practice is getting great value for money so we can continue to offer dentistry at affordable rates.  I am also responsible for training of staff, and I assist my manager with the recruitment of Dental Assistants.  I really enjoy supporting young dental assistants starting out in a new career and familiarising older dental assistants who may be returning to work after time out of the workforce.   I get a great deal of job satisfaction knowing that my team are well supported by me and the surgeries are well stocked and running smoothly.

When I come to work each day my goal is to make people feel comfortable and calm when they are having their dental treatments,  no one loves coming to the dentist and I do my best to ensure that I do my bit to ensure my patients have a positive experience.

I started working with Team Dental in 2000, first as a weekend receptionist.  I then trained as a Dental Assistant.  I worked closely with our CEO Brett Marshall when he was practicing dentistry from the 2nd Ave branch.  I trained for and passed my NZDA Certificate in 2010.

I totally recommend Dental Assisting as a career.  The New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA) recognises the important role dental assistants play in the successful day to day running of a dental practice. They offer the NZDA Certificate in Dental Assisting course to dental assistants working alongside NZDA Dentists.   The NZDA course is structured over one academic year starts in February and finishes up in November. It is a modular, online, correspondence course which includes a combination of self-directed learning activities, lectures, online assessments and practical workplace experience.

In my spare time I love walks on the beach and spending time with my beautiful family and pets.

Team dental is one big family, as a family our mission is to ensure our patients have positive dental experiences, we strive to provide caring affordable Dental Care and want our patients leaving us with a smile.
